Joe Filer is a recognized Information Security Professional with over 20 years of solid, global senior management experience in the Financial Services, Defense, Technology, Consulting, Telecommunications, and Healthcare industries.
As Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer at Harland Clarke Holdings Corp. (HCHC), he has direct responsibility for management of all international corporate information security program efforts (operations, architecture and security alignment management) along with services that validate and provide visibility to security program effectiveness focusing on client security requirements, contracts /service levels agreements, vendor security risk management, and audit/regulatory compliance expectations. Specifically, his branch facilitates multiple SSAE 16/SOC2 reviews, Payment Card Industry certification efforts, and major client audits across HCHC business elements. As Client Security Advocate (a role that he built at Harland Clarke), he provides a “client perspective” to ensure that HCHC’s information security policy/procedures, security risk management efforts, security tool deployments, and company security awareness/training programs result in lower risks associated with doing business across HCHC.
Prior to Harland Clarke, Mr. Filer was the Director of Corporate Security for Rackspace Managed Hosting (San Antonio) where he was responsible for building the company’s first global Information Security Program. He has held various positions in the information security industry including Chief Information Security Officer, senior project manager, and principal security consultant providing security services to clients across many industries.
Mr. Filer received an MS in Operations Research from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics from Siena College in Loudonville, New York. He holds multiple industry certifications including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Project Manager Professional (PMP), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC). He has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow by the International Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) for his career long contributions to the information security profession.
